What is Wrocław Tap Dance Festival?
Wrocław Tap Dance Festival – WRO TAP FEST is a brand-new event in the cultural life of the city. This three-day festival is fully devoted to a unique dance genre — TAP DANCE.
The classes will have four levels of advancement and will be conducted by four teachers (three of them from Poland and also a special guest from abroad). We can guarantee that you will find a class that suits you best.
In addition to tap dance classes, there will be a whole bunch of accompanying events to participate in. These include, among others: tap dance jam and a discussion panel, which will provide the participants with the occasion to be introduced to tap dance history as well as to meet our guests and ask them questions. The highlight of the Festival is our final concert with special performance by all our guests and most probably by workshop’s participants.
4 INSTRUCTORS
The tap dance workshops will be held by four instructors (three of them from Poland and one special guest from abroad). A diversity of teaching methods and individual tap dance styles is guaranteed.
4 ADVANCEMENT LEVELS
Classes will be held on four difficulty levels: Total Beginners, Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. There will be also one MASTERCLASS organised.
10+ TAP DANCE HOURS
The three-day workshop includes more than 25 hours of classes altogether. An individual participant will have an opportunity to attend 10 hours of classes. And that’s without including all the special events!
INTEGRATION - MEETING
Tap dance is not just a dance. It’s about all those who perform it. During the festival, you will have a chance to meet people with the same passion — tap dance! It will be the best opportunity to exchange your experiences, meet new friends and to integrate yourself into the tap dancing community.
INSTRUCTORS:

The greatest achievement: progress achieved by his students
Favourite steps: all performed in the air, especially those that are considered impossible to do
Favourite teachers: Sam Weber, Michelle Dorrance, Daniel Borak

Dancer, tap dancer, choreographer. Founder of the first and only Tap Dance School in Kraków, MyTap. She says about herself :
„I teach tap dancing. I help others make their dreams come true! I teach this dance because I believe that anybody can try tap dancing. The most important thing for me in dance is the sense of joy that it gives. When it comes to technique, I focus on the whole body when dancing and not only on footwork and beats. That is why I concentrate on bringing out the individual potential of a dancer, his own character and style.”
The greatest achievement: 7 years of existence of my school MyTap, the creation of taping community in Kraków from scratch
Favourite step: Time Steps
Favourite teachers: Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Josette Wiggan-Freund, Sam Weber

A psychologist and dance instructor by profession, a dancer and choreographer out of passion. I tap dance, and dance in general, from the age of 8. I have been winning various European championships for over 20 years, participated in numerous performances, shows, and festivals. At one point in my life, I noticed that I can’t live without tap dancing. It was not just a hobby anymore, it was my passion that changed my life and gave it direction.
I have been running a TIP TAP taping school in Warsaw for six years. I organise tap dance workshops, the Warsaw Tip Tap RUN festival, the monthly Warsaw Tap Jam Session and conduct regular classes at my school. I prepared a choreography for the performance Taping Lessons directed by Krystyna Janda at the Och-Teatr in Warsaw in 2016.
I try to promote tap dancing in Poland, overcome stereotypical thinking about tap dance and show that you can tap at any age, to any type of music and in any place. I focus on improvisation, self-expression in dance, body coordination, and tap dancing techniques.
I regularly go to workshops and tap dancing festivals. In 2015, I got a scholarship from Heather Cornell and participated in a two-week course Manhattan Rhythm Tap Intensive in New York.
–
The greatest achievement: satisfaction from the fact that I share my passion and infect others with it
Favourite step: I do not have one, but I like new challenges; I like rhythmically interesting steps and combinations of steps
Favourite teachers: Derick Grant, Ruben Sanchez, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards

Daniel „Dani” Borak, a world-famous multi-genre performer, choreographer, and teacher, member of the Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) where he uses many of his skills in various CHRP programs. Passionate about experimenting and working with a wide spectrum of performative and visual artists, this extremely talented performer has already expanded the concept of traditional tap dancing, creating his own unique futuristic vocabulary of percussive dance and rhythmic expression. A native Swiss (Winterthur) Dani has given his performances as a soloist all around the world and won 11 gold medals in many different categories (six in solo category) at the IDO dance world championships in Riesa, Germany. In 2013, he was the co-choreographer and dance master in the productions of Spamalot and Flashdance. In 2014, he collaborated in creating Funny Feet (by Lukas Weiss Productions), a show that combines tap dancing, juggling, virtuoso percussion, and humour. Other shows with his performances in 2014-15 include: WINGS Rigolo and, thanks to Regine Ochsner, Rhythm Refix by Cartier Williams. In 2015, he faced the biggest challenge of his career, appearing in Kick The Square by Kilian Deissler, the performance consisted of him tapping in an extremely complex way and cooperating with six other musicians, using a specially created system of notations and a special stage consisting of various sound elements. His projects, which he performed all around the world, include: DaNaTI, cooperation with a Swiss dancer and choreographer Natalie Wagner, who combines step-up, jazz, contemporary dance and acting; Carpe Rhythm, Swiss taping team, directed by Daniel Leveillé; his long-term cooperation with Ursina Meyer; projects with his mother Liba Borak and their dancers at Dance Studio Borak; Dog, Sheep & Shepherd with jazz duo Gabriela and Jan Pisklák. He runs many workshops and is invited to many festivals all around the world. His most ambitious project so far has been the Tap Dan Festival in October 2016 in his hometown of Winterthur in Switzerland, where he showed seven performances presenting his new collaborations as well as the material of six years of work as independent artist. Almost all of his colleagues from Switzerland, along with guests from the USA, England, France, and Germany (including Barbara Duffy, Cartier Williams, Max Pollak, Victor Cuno and Andreas Dänel) participated in this Festival and collaborated with him.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR LEVEL?
Participants often do not know which level should they choose. Practising with a new instructor means learning new ways of working with your body and new combinations of steps, which at first might be difficult. That is why a class with level seemingly lower than yours may also prove to be challenging and you may actually learn a lot. Some of the participants, however, especially experienced ones, may want to get acquainted with instructors on the higher level, their techniques and methods. There are also participants who prefer to attend classes conducted by a particular teacher, regardless of class level.
That is why during our festival we want to try a more flexible formula. We want everyone who sign up for the festival to be able to tap on two different levels: one in their comfort zone and one that is challenging. We took into account limited time and the ability to absorb the material and created a schedule in which the level of difficulty increases with each subsequent day, and the classes are arranged in such a way that everyone can actively tap on both days.
Are you new in the world of tap dancing? The best choice then will be classes on Friday (TOTAL BEGINNING) and Saturday (BEGINNER). The first class will be comfortable, the second will be more of a challenge. Sunday will be great to explore Wrocław and spend quality time with other tap dancers.
If you think you are a beginner, then the BEGINNER class on Saturday and the INTERMEDIATE class on Sunday will be the best choice for you. Friday will be perfect for sightseeing.
People on intermediate level should choose INTERMEDIATE+ class on Saturday and INTERMEDIATE class on Sunday.
Those who think they may not be able to keep up at the advanced level should choose INTERMEDIATE+ class on Saturday and ADVANCED class on Sunday.
The last group ADVANCED + is for people who are looking for real challenges at the highest level of advancement. Although there is no advanced + level during the festival, those who feel ready for this kind of a challenge should choose the Sunday class for ADVANCED and the MASTERCLASS FOR PRO — an additional class conducted by our special guest who will show even the most advanced participants that their potential is limitless and the top is still much higher.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: One of the ideas behind the Wrocław Tap Dance Festival is that all our workshops should be a challenge in general. That is why expect the level of each class to be higher than average.
EXAMPLES.
Lubi wyzwania.
Kupi PAKIET 1 DAY PASS, na poziom średniozaawansowany.
Wojtek lubi nowe rzeczy. Dlatego Kupuje PAKIET 2 DAY i dopłaca 50zł do opcji FLEX, ponieważ interesują go tylko zajęcia z gościem specjalnym.
